Celebrating bridges worldwide, built using Teesside steel, making Teesside a key player in the British Empire construction trade.

A list of just some of the bridges built using Teesside steel and celebrating Dorman Long and Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Company, key players in the British Empire construction trade. Dorman Long was a key player in the British Empire construction trade along with another Teesside firm, Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Company. In the 1880s, Dorman Long started making steel and, over the following years, bought several other firms and work sites around Teesside.

Their steel and the bridges that use them span the globe; from the iconic Tees Transporter just down the road, to the Sydney Harbour Bridge down under. Dorman Long bridges can be found crossing the Nile, connecting Danish islands and in far-flung places such as Hong Kong. The steel we produced locally didn’t just build the world, it bridged it too.
